TWO women have been elected to join the cabinet of Portsmouth City Council.

Cllr Terry Hall, who represents Eastney and Craneswater, will replace Mike Hancock to take on the planning, regeneration and development portfolio, and Sandra Stockdale, who represents St Thomas, will take over the role vacated by Cllr Eleanor Scott last week - environment and community safety.

Cllr Hancock resigned from the cabinet earlier today.

And Cllr Scott, when she quit last month, said she had become disillusioned with the aggressive and macho culture within the council.

Both Cllr Hancock and Cllr Scott remain on the council.
