The leader of Portsmouth City Council has brushed off her disappointment at failing to be selected as the Tory choice for Fareham in the next general election.
Donna Jones was third of four in the hustings vote.
Despite losing out to Suella Fernandes for the role of Fareham parliamentary candidate, Cllr Jones remained positive.
She said: ‘To get to the last four out of 92 candidates is a real achievement and I will work with Suella as much as I can in my role of council leader. I am sure she will make an excellent MP as she has a wealth of experience.’
Cllr Jones said she was ‘100 per cent’ committed to her role as council leader.
She added: ‘There is a lot of work to be done in Portsmouth. Tomorrow is another day and it will be onward with the battle.’
