Portsmouth council could recruit extra independent advisor to help deal with complaints

PORTSMOUTH councillors are to decide whether the authority should recruit someone who isn't political to advise them on matters.

The council has three independent advisors whose function is to advise the authority before it makes a finding as to whether an elected member has failed to comply with the code of conduct. It’s now been recommended an extra person is recruited to speed up the process of looking at complaints as delays have been caused in the past due to independent advisors being unavailable. The plan will be debated on Friday.
