Portsmouth councillor urges public to get tough on fly-tipping

The public is being urged to be on the look out for and report dumped mess.

It comes following reports of fly-tipping and cars being abandoned in Howard Road, Hilsea.

An abandoned car also had to be removed from Beechwood Road.

Hilsea Tory councillor Scott Harris helped to get a sofa removed which had been left in Howard Road.

He said: ‘It’s incidents like this which makes local residents’ life a misery, it is a blot on the local landscape.

‘I’m pleased that we were able to act quickly and decisively on this issue.

‘Any residents, who have concerns about fly tipping and abandoned cars, please do not hesitate to contact me.

‘If a car is not taxed and has no valid MOT, it should not be on the road.

‘I am currently working with residents to deal with these issues.’

Cllr Scott Harris said it was important residents use the council’s new MyPortsmouth app to report issues so they’re sorted out quickly.

The app alerts council workers to fly-tipping hotspots which can then be controlled.

Cllr Harris said: ‘The MyPortsmouth App is a fantastic tool and I’ve advised residents recently to download it on their smart phones to ensure we have as many ways to report issues such as this across the city.

‘I implore all residents if you can, please download this app.

‘If you can’t, please bring your concerns to me and I will be happy to help.’
