Portsmouth Lib Dem urges council to stop rise in family charity's bill

THE leader of Portsmouth's Lib Dem group has joined the battle to protect a city charity which faces a huge increase in its rent.

Councillor Gerald Vernon-Jackson is urging council officers to stop the authority putting up Portsmouth Family Welfare Association’s rent to stay in Fratton from £700 a year to potentially £5,000.

Cllr Vernon-Jackson said: ‘I have been trying to do stuff on behalf of the charity.

‘It looks as if it won’t be able to stay where it is.

‘I have been talking to council officers to see if I can get them to think again.’
