Concern as Fareham council tax rise soars – again

Have your say

Portsmouth today lost out on its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2017.

A panel of judges, led by TV producer Phil Redmond, have rejected Portsmouth and Southampton’s joint bid.

It is a blow to both cities, as whichever city won the award was expected to reap millions of pounds worth of financial rewards in terms of extra tourism and investment.

Now the two cities have to watch as Swansea Bay, Dundee, Leicester and Hull go on to the second round.

The eventual winner will be announced in November.
