Portsmouth MP adds support to campaign against hate crime

Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond is supporting a campaign to end learning disability hate crime.

She met leading learning disability charities to hear about the impact of hate crime on the lives of the people they support.

Mrs Drummond said: ‘It is completely unacceptable that some of the most vulnerable people in our society are being treated in such a way with this appalling crime.

‘I was told of some of instances and the devastating impact on victims and their families, and I fully agree we need far greater awareness and action to put a stop to it and ensure those who commit these crimes are punished.’

Charity Dimensions UK this week published a new survey on the experience of learning disability hate crime showing frightening levels of people with a learning disability or autism being targeted.
