Portsmouth MP to host event to help disabled people get work

EMPLOYERS are grouping together to support more disabled people getting into jobs.

Portsmouth is looking to host its first Disability Confident Event for employers as part of a government pledge to halve the disability employment gap and create opportunities.

The event will be hosted by Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond and will give businesses the chance to find out more about hiring disabled people.

Led by minister for disabled people, health and work Penny Mordaunt, it exists to address misconceptions about disabled people in the work place and highlights the benefits of hiring them.

Ms Mordaunt said: ‘I’m pleased that Flick Drummond is hosting this event in Portsmouth. Halving the disability employment gap is critical if we are to ensure everyone has the opportunity to succeed in life.’

Mrs Drummond added: ‘I believe that it is important for employers to make the most of the talent that exists amongst disabled people in this country.

‘This event is to encourage employers to understand the business benefits of employing disabled jobseekers.’

It is being held at Portsmouth FC on September 9 between 10am and 1pm.
