PORTSMOUTH North MP Penny Mordaunt has been made parliamentary under secretary for communities.

She will join the Department for Communities and Local Government as a junior minister.

Speaking to The News, Ms Mordaunt said: ‘It is a very huge honour to have been made a member of the government.

‘I am extremely proud and hope it will inspire others in the city to pursue their dreams and put themselves out there for whatever it is that they want.’

The minister for Portsmouth Michael Fallon was appointed defence secretary in the reshuffle.

Matthew Hancock has been made the city’s new minister.
