CITY MP Penny Mordaunt has admitted her workload is continuing to rise because of Mike Hancock’s poor health and reputation.

Ms Mordaunt previously revealed the number of constituents coming to her for help had risen by up to 15 per cent as many were put off seeing the Portsmouth South MP.

Ms Mordaunt now says her ‘frazzled’ workers in her Hilsea office are putting in weekend shifts to keep on top of everything as demand keeps growing.

Mr Hancock has been in hospital since February recovering from depression and complications arising from a heart operation.

Last month the disgraced politician admitted to forging an ‘inappropriate friendship’ with a woman who first came to him for help in October 2009.

Ms Mordaunt, who represents Portsmouth North, said: ‘My workers are coming in weekends and they are frazzled.

‘But they are an amazing team who have resilience and care about what they do.’
