Portsmouth scrutiny panel to meet over damning Southern Health report

A SCRUTINY panel is meeting to find out what action a health trust has taken to improve its work following a damning report into its practices.

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust came under fire after a dossier revealed it failed to properly investigate hundreds of deaths over a four-year period.

The trust also failed to engage properly with families, particularly important when the individuals concerned had a learning disability and/or mental illness and may have been less able to speak up for themselves as families are often closely involved with their care.

Portsmouth City Council’s health, overview and scrutiny panel is meeting to find out what action has been taken to address the flaws.

Members will listen to how health regulator Monitor has been drafted in following the publication of the report to improve the trust’s practices.

The committee meeting, which is open for the public to attend, takes place on Tuesday at 9.30am in Portsmouth Guildhall.
