MIKE Hancock has been criticised for attending the Council of Europe this week while his political future and reputation hangs in the balance.

The News can reveal that Cllr Hancock went to Strasbourg in France for two meetings on Monday to hear about the election of a new president for the council’s Parliamentary Assembly.

It comes after Cllr Hancock said he was taking a few days off and wasn’t feeling very well following news of his suspension from the Liberal Democrats.

Cllr Luke Stubbs, deputy Conservative group leader, said: ‘Those who voted to keep him in the cabinet have some reflecting to do.’

Cllr John Ferrett, Labour group leader, said: ‘It’s absolutely outrageous.’

Cllr Hancock was unavailable for comment.
