Hide AdMiss Fernandes said: ‘SDAS provide a safe haven for women fleeing violent partners and I was moved by the warmth and professionalism of the staff and volunteers there.
‘Hearing the harrowing stories of the women was a shocking reminder that far too many women are still suffering behind closed doors, without a way out.
‘SDAS provides safety, support and opportunity to rebuild life away from the grip of domestic violence.’
The organisation recently received £190,000 in funding from the government.
