A UKIP candidate has branded proposals to create a new road to ease congestion ‘pathetic’.

As previously reported, the county council plans to consult on two options to alleviate traffic along Newgate Lane.

Christopher Wood from Stubbington UKIP said: ‘The proposal to block Newgate Lane and build another road is a pathetic waste of money which does nothing to cut congestion around Gosport, Fareham or Stubbington.

‘The only answer is a Stubbington bypass. The council should get on and build it.’
