COUNCILLORS have given a pub with a history of trouble its alcohol licence back.

The decision was made to allow The Tangier, in Tangier Road, Copnor, Portsmouth, to re-open after its owners Enterprise Inns promised to stamp out trouble that had existed before.

As previously reported, the pub was shut down last year after a string of complaints about violent behaviour.

Councillor Les Stevens, head of licensing at the council, said: ‘We agreed to give the pub back its licence after the owners promised to impose conditions set out by police.’

Enterprise Inns said it applied for a new licence because it wanted to find a new owner. The pub is on the market for £275,000.

An Enterprise Inns spokeswoman said: ‘Enterprise applied for a new premises licence in order to keep the options open for any future owner of this site.’
