The HMS POW will be the second new aircraft carrier in the fleet, after the HMS Queen Elizabeth.

The flagship is currently in America carrying out historic flight trials, while HMS Prince of Wales is still being built in Scotland.

She will join HMS Queen Elizabeth in Portsmouth in the coming years.

Speaking to the Ministry of Defence in footage shared on social media, HMS Prince of Wales Commanding Officer said the two ships will make Royal Navy one of '˜the best in the world'.

In the video, Captain Stephen Moorhouse said: '˜We're just over a year since her Royal Highness named the ship and we're just under a year, all being well, from going to sea.

'˜So for you to come and see how we are doing at that halfway stage is a really important moment for us.

'˜The Queen Elizabeth Class Carrier programme will set the Royal Navy right up there with the best navies in the world.

'˜To operate Aircraft Carriers requires an ability and a sophistication that most navies just simply cannot aspire to and to have two out there really is a game changer.'

HMS Queen Elizabeth is due back in Portsmouth before Christmas, if all goes well.
