Scrutineers pledge their support to crime head

POLITICIANS have pledged to support the police and crime commissioner.

Michael Lane was elected to in Hampshire last month.

Now members of the Hampshire Police and Crime Panel, which holds him to account, has said it will support him.

Chairman Councillor Dave Stewart said: ‘We are looking forward to working with the new police and crime commissioner in a proactive and open way.

‘We have a responsibility to the people of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to ensure robust scrutiny of the work of the PCP, and this clear focus will remain our priority

‘In the months ahead, we will be refining our scrutiny procedures even further, as well as recruiting new independent co-opted panel members to join us in our work to support and monitor the work of the commissioner.’

Members from each council are on the panel, along with two non-political members.

Mr Lane, who met the panel last week, said: ‘I am very much looking forward to and welcome, the panel’s scrutiny.’

The PCP meets on July 8.
