DOG wardens and animal welfare officers from as far away as Malta attended a council-run animal welfare conference.

More than 65 professionals heard talks from well-known speakers on dog law, micro-chipping and media relations at East Hampshire District Council, Petersfield.

The event was run by the authority’s award-winning animal welfare team, Natasha Watson and Neil Burton, and sponsored by Natural Instinct.

Mr Burton said: ‘It was a great day and an excellent opportunity for sharing best practice among other professionals.

‘Our speakers were terrific. They are well-respected in the industry and I think everyone went away having learnt a lot.’

Among the day’s delegates was Dennis Sciberras, animal welfare co-ordinator for Maltese government.

Mr Sciberras has been in contact with the council’s animal welfare service since Mr Burton went to Malta to offer training to the island’s officers.
