Solent combined authority plan moves forward as Isle of Wight says '˜yes'

A BID to create a Solent combined authority and gain more power from central government has taken a step forward tonight.

Councillors at the Isle of Wight Council’s executive voted five to two in favour of the Solent devolution motion.

This follows a meeting last week where councillors on the island voted against the plan, which would see devolved powers come from central government for areas such as education and health. Both Portsmouth and Southampton city councils have already agreed to join.
