Statue to act as a permanent reminder of '˜fallen war heroes'

The six- foot aluminium Tommy figure is the brainchild of the '˜There But Not There Campaign' '“  an organisation which is   supporting a number of armed forces charities. The soldiers have been made by army veterans, employed by Royal British Legion Industries.

Mayor of Havant, Councillor Peter Wade, said; '˜I'm very proud to be unveiling this tribute to mark the centenary of the end of WWI and to those who lost their lives. The Tommy Soldier figure reminds us of the great sacrifices our armed forces gave and are giving for our country. It will act as a focal point of remembrance and give visitors an opportunity to pay their respects.' 

The unveiling is part of Havant Borough Council's plans to commemorate the centenary anniversary of the end of the war. The metal silhouette will be installed close to the flagpole outside of the Plaza.

'˜Tommy' will be officially unveiled at the site on Civic Centre Road  during a short ceremony on Friday, November 9 at 11am.
