GOSPORT Borough Council has confirmed it will shut down on this week’s day of strike action.

Unison balloted its members over industrial action following proposed changes to pension schemes.

And with 75 per cent of the council’s staff made up of Unison members, Gosport’s town hall will be forced to close on Wednesday.

Council spokeswoman Brenda Brooker said: ‘We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

‘While this national dispute continues every effort will be made to ensure disruption to services is kept to a minimum.’

Bin collections in the town will continue as normal as these are done by external contractors.

The council has made arrangements for emergency cover and in the event of an emergency residents can call (023) 9258 4242.
