CONSERVATIVE group leader Donna Jones has been crowned the new leader of Portsmouth City Council.
Cllr Jones has snapped up the position following the resignation of Lib Dem leader, Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson.
She won the support of her own party as well as Ukip and Labour.
Cllr Jones said: ‘I will do my best to create a new culture into this city.
‘I will work with all the key partnerships to ensure Portsmouth is not just the number one waterfront city in the UK, but also in Europe.’
Minister for Portsmouth Michael Fallon has welcomed Cllr Jones as the new leader of the city council.
‘I congratulate Donna Jones on becoming council leader and I look forward to working with her on our ambitious agenda for Portsmouth,’ he said.
‘It is important that all four parties now pull together to help unlock the opportunities for jobs and growth that exist in Portsmouth.’
