UK government looks at plans to launch new mobile phone emergency warning system

BRITAIN is looking at plans to launch a new emergency warning system capable of alerting millions of people to a crisis via their mobile phones.

The new tech would send a warning in the event of a major disaster or health crisis.

News of the proposal was revealed by cabinet minister and Portsmouth North MP, Penny Mordaunt.

Responding to a written question about what steps were being taken to set up a new mobile phone public warning system, Ms Mordaunt said: ‘The government is reviewing the opportunities of a mobile alerting capability to issue alerts to mobile devices. The government recognises the need for messages to be easily understood by everyone receiving them.’
