A WOMAN who was taken ill during a meeting to sign off the £90m plan to improve access to Gosport has died.

Betty Bishop is believed to have suffered a stroke during the meeting at Hampshire County Council’s offices in Winchester on Tuesday. The meeting was adjourned while Mrs Bishop was taken to hospital, where she later died.

Mrs Bishop, a resident of Woodcote Lane, was in the public gallery to hear the decision and had been instrumental in gathering objections from other residents and delivering them to decision-maker Cllr Sean Woodward.

Residents said Mrs Bishop will be deeply missed and that she had worked hard to fight the new road.
