WORK has begun to demolish a former live music venue and well-known Portsmouth pub.

Permission was granted to turn the Contented Pig, in Fratton Road, Fratton, into 11 flats in 2013.

However, work stalled and the building was allowed to fall into disrepair.

Workers from Wessex Demolition moved on to the site on Friday and have begun to prepare the site for its final demolition date on August 10.
