THE first demolition work has taken place at the New Theatre Royal.

It heralded the start of the theatre’s £16m rebuild, in collaboration with the University of Portsmouth.

The first breaking of the boards was the demolition of portable buildings on the theatre’s back-lot which have been used as dressing rooms since the mid-90s.

ISG Construction Ltd, which built the 2012 London Velodrome, was selected to do the work.
