YOUNG people got involved in local politics as a youth council held its annual general meeting.

Fareham Youth Council put its suggestions to guest speaker Councillor Trevor Cartwright, MBE.

Cllr Cartwright, the deputy leader of Freham Borough Council, said: ‘These meetings are a great way for young people to influence local decisions, gain a political perspective and learn how councils operate.

‘It is also a great way for young people to enhance their CV for college, university and future jobs.’

Meetings take place on the first and second Wednesday of each month in the Council Chamber at Fareham’s Civic Offices. The Youth Council is led by 11 to 19-year-olds and serves to represent the views of children and young people in the borough. For information about joining call 01329 236100 or email
