YOUNG people have been urged to vote for their chosen representatives in the UK Youth Parliament.

Hampshire County Council has one seat available for the Fareham, Gosport and Havant area.

It is looking for people aged between 11 and 18 who live locally to act as the voice for young people as members from 2011 to 2013.

The role includes attending about six regional meetings of the UK Youth Parliament a year, as well as meetings at Hampshire Youth Council and with decision-makers at Hampshire County Council.

A deputy will also be appointed.

A briefing workshop for young people who have signed up to stand for election will be held from 11am to 2pm at Hampshire County Council headquarters in Castle Avenue, Winchester, on Saturday.

The elections are to be held next month and results will be announced on February 28.
