A SCHEME that encourages young people to get involved in local government initiatives has been honoured for its work with a national award.

The Youth Voice team from Hampshire County Council was presented with an Innovation Award at the British Youth Council’s annual Youth on Board Awards in London.

The team launched in April and has, among other things, encouraged young people to get involved with Youth Parliament and Hampshire County Youth Conferences.

Hampshire’s two Youth Voice representatives, Alex Maynard from Gosport and Amelia Wrigley from Winchester, provide a voice for young people in council decision making.

Alex said: ‘We’re pleased to receive this award.

‘It’s a great testament to the work we’ve been doing this year. Our work has helped to ensure the views and contributions of young people reach a wide range of audiences, including those where young people previously had no say and we’re grateful to the council for the opportunity.’
