Mark Kelly's troops responded well, though, and deduced the deficit in the 29th minute through Alfie Stanley's neat finish.

Leon Maloney then rattled the crossbar with a curling 25-yard shot seven minutes before half-time.

And the hosts were out of the traps in the second half like a rocket, scoring three times in 11 minutes.

On 49 minutes, Maloney's powerful header was saved by the visiting keeper, leaving Stanley with a simple finish to equalise and net his second of the game.

The young Blues took the lead for the first time five minutes later when Ethan Robb calmly headed home Josh Flint's corner at he back post.

Maloney then joined in the goalscoring party in the 56th minute to extend his side's advantage.

However, Newport hit back swiftly with a goal of their own just a minute later.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser but Kelly's side stood firm to clinch the three points.
