VOLUNTEERS worked hard to clear up a section of the sea front in Eastney.

Around 30 members and volunteers from the Eastney Cruising Association, Ferry Road, organised the annual beach clean-up.

Armed with litter-pickers and a skip, members found a range of random rubbish dumped in the water.

The abandoned items collected included a mattress, a syringe, televisions, tyres, cool boxes, doors, ropes, boat parts and oil cans.

David Heard of the association said: ‘Even though the beach appears relatively clean, the amount of rubbish collected within around an hour highlights the rubbish that gets strewn around our shores.

‘We organised the clean-up so the area is improved for everybody to enjoy.’
