The Dickens Christmas Festival will have authentic decorations and snow-covered cobbles, as well as more than 100 Christmas stalls - selling artisan bakes and cakes, vintage clothes and homemade crafts, among other things.

There will be a Curiosity Shop, Fagin's Tavern and Father Christmas dressed in green and once you've worked up a thirst you can enjoy a tipple in the Gin & Prosecco Parlour.

The Dickens Christmas Festival was picked as one of the eight best festive market '“ alongside ones in Bath and York '“ by The Independent's Joanna Whitehead.

She wrote: '˜Thanks to A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens will forever be associated with the festive season.

'˜It's why Portsmouth's historic dockyard is being transformed into a Victorian street for the Christmas season.'

When is the Dickens Christmas Festival?

The festive market will take place at the Historic Dockyard between November 30 and December 2.

The market will be open between 10am and 6pm on each of the three days.

Dickens and Portsmouth

Charles Dickens was born on what is now Commercial Road on February 7, 1812.

His father was a clerk in the Navy Pay Office and was stationed in the area.

The Dickens family moved back to London in January 1815.
