Portsmouth councillor to honour his late grandfather on D-Day trip in France

A CITY councillor will be following in his grandfather's footsteps when he visits France to mark the anniversary of D-Day.

Stephen Morgan will be paying tribute to his late grandad James Kaminski, who was one of hundreds of young men to leave his home city of Portsmouth on June 4, 1944 to invade Normandy.

James was 17 when he landed on Juno Beach with the Royal Army Service Corps and had been in the army for four months.

Cllr Morgan, who is part of a delegation from Portsmouth to visit Caen this weekend, said: ‘He, like many others, gave so much to our great city and our country, and it is important their stories continue to be passed on through these anniversaries and other important civic events.’
