A RESCUE team from Cosham Fire Station was scrambled to save a woman who waded into a river to save her dog.

The woman was spotted heading into Monks Brook, Eastleigh, at 9.20am today, by a passing firefighter on route to another call-out.

Concerned about her safety, he called for water rescue teams to be mobilised.

A crew from Cosham was deployed and searched the area. However, they were unable to find the woman.

Firefighter Martin Earl said it was likely she had left safely but they had to be sure no-one was in danger.

‘All we can guess is that she went in, picked out dog out and left,’ he added.

Teams left just before 11am.
