TWO teams of street dancers from Portsmouth have come first in a regional dance competition.

Most Wanted Crew and Most Wanted Ignite, both urban dance groups formed as part of a project at the University of Portsmouth, came ‘top of the body-pops’ in Hampshire Street Dance Championships’ intermediate and newcomer categories.

Most Wanted Crew featured on CBBC’s Alesha’s Street Dancers earlier this month after auditioning in May and being picked from more than 200 crews around the UK.

Carly-Ann Purcell, dance development officer of the university’s Up For Sport programme, who trained both groups, said: ‘I am so proud of all my dancers, they have worked incredibly hard and have such a professional mindset. They completely deserve all they have achieved. We cannot wait to perform at the university’s Most Wanted Dance Off at the Kings Theatre in February.’
