A DOCTOR from Portsmouth is to star on the third series of a survival programme, due to be aired tonight.

The Island with Bear Grylls returns for its third series at 9pm on Channel 4. The show will see a group of men and a group of women dumped on opposite sides of an uninhabited island in the Pacific.

The eight men and eight women will have no idea that the other tribe exists.

More than 135,000 people applied take part, with Daniel Quemby, 41, securing a place.

Dr Quemby, from Clanfield, is a consultant medical doctor, who speaks French, German and Spanish.

He worked in a monkey sanctuary from the age of eight, which inspired his love of science and nature.

He describes himself as ‘eccentric and kind’ and took part to see if he could live without the internet and other modern conveniences.
