PEOPLE can find out more about volunteering in Portsmouth at an event in Arundel Street precinct tomorrow.

A host of organisations that offer volunteering opportunities will be represented at the event, which runs from 10am to 1pm, as part of National Volunteers Week.

Portsmouth City Council’s trading standards department will be after people to spread the word about consumer rights, and Hampshire Fire and Rescue is looking for people to help raise awareness of fire safety.

Other organisations include Time Bank, Portsmouth Lions, Hampshire Constabulary, Green Neighbours, Volunteer Centre Portsmouth, and St Mary’s Hospital’s League of Friends.

Louise Wilders, head of customer, community and democratic services at the council, said: ‘We’d like to encourage as many people as possible to attend the event.

‘The volunteering opportunities are extremely diverse, and if you can give a little time you could make a huge difference.’
