Ryan Stillwell, 25, scooped the prize and will be able to follow Portsmouth up and down the country as they push for promotion.

Premier Inn ran a one of a kind competition to find the UK's most travelled football fan and reward them with free stays at hotels for the season.

The competition was open to fans across the country but Ryan, who has has followed his Pompey home and away to over 550 games, has been named the winner.

He said: '˜Winning this competition is going to be massively helpful to me and my friends.

'˜Usually, we'd turn away days into day trips and just drive up, support the team and have our fun and then we'd be back in the car driving home, making it a really long and tiring day!

'˜Portsmouth have an island philosophy and the club is tied in so well with the community, that's what makes my support so strong and I don't think it will ever stop.'

The competition was judge on answers to these three questions:

- How many away games did you attend last season?

- Have you missed any important life events (weddings, birthdays, milestones) to watch your club play?

- What football team do you support?

Growing up right next to Fratton Park, Portsmouth have been a huge part of Ryan's life and he has regularly clocked up 8000 miles travelling to away games each season.

However the overnight stays he has won will help ease the 6000+ mile round trips Ryan will be taking this season to watch his team play away from home.

John Annoh at Premier Inn said: '˜Every season we welcome thousands of football fans through our doors.

'˜We know that travelling up and down the country can take its toll and there's nothing like a good night's sleep and a decent breakfast to set you up for a big day ahead.

'˜We're so glad we can award Ryan with his Away Day season ticket to ensure he has a great place to start or end his footballing day, wherever in the country he may be.'
