Portsmouth firefighters play their part in tackling major Fleet blaze

FIREFIGHTERS from the Portsmouth area joined efforts overnight to tackle a huge blaze in Hampshire.

Portsmouth, Southsea and Fareham teamed up with more than 50 firefighters bringing a fire at Fleet services under control.

Emergency services were called to the major incident at around 10.30pm last night.

Police closed the southbound carriageway of the M3, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said, after smoke began pouring from the service station.

A fire service spokesman said: ‘It started in one of the restaurants in the services and it spread from there, but we have stopped it from spreading throughout the whole building.’

There were no injuries reported and the blaze was brought under control in the early hours of Thursday, he added.
