A WOMAN will have her head shaved to raise money for her sister-in-law who suffers from leukaemia.

Sonia Greaves, a 39-year-old hairdresser from North End, Portsmouth, has organised a fundraiser on August 6, to send Jade Handcock and her family on holiday.

Jade, who is doing the shaving, is being treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham and was diagnosed with cancer of the bone marrow and blood in May.

The 23-year-old mum met Sonia’s brother five years ago, and they have three young children together.

The funds will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. So far she has raised over £700.

Sonia said: ‘I told Jade if she lost her hair, I’d shave mine off too. It’s actually going to be my 40th that day, so what a way to see in my birthday!

‘Seventy people have already said they’re coming, and on top of me losing my hair, we’re having a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses, and we’re auctioning off me and my aunts as maids for a day.’

The haircut takes place at 6pm in the Pelham Arms pub in Chichester Road, North End.
