A HOSTEL for homeless people is appealing for football kit donations to help get its new team off the ground.

Mill House Hostel in Milton Road, Milton, Portsmouth, has set up a team of residents and staff, and needs help to get up and running.

The team has planned a derby fixture against residents at a hostel in Southampton. It desperately needs footballs and kit donations.

Support worker Geoff Coleman said: ‘When someone is homeless, they have lost that hope and they come to this hostel, their outlook on life is pretty bleak. To find some sort of motivation, to inspire a little bit of hope is vital. Football ticks all those boxes.

‘It’s a really good vessel – football is a universal language and it’s about building confidence and also improving fitness.

‘It’s really important that we find things for the residents to do outside the hostel and help them get back into the community.’
