Portsmouth Labour calls for Guildhall cenotaph improvements

A CALL has been made to improve the visibility and accessibility of Guildhall Square memorial to Portsmouth's war dead.

The cenotaph commemorates service personnel and civilians from Portsmouth who have died in past conflicts.

Portsmouth deputy Labour group leader Councillor Stephen Morgan has written to the council requesting action. He wrote: ‘Portsmouth’s strong link with the armed forces community is one of the city’s many strengths.

‘As residents of this great city, we can rightly be proud of our tradition and long history associated with our naval heritage and the contribution the city has made, and continues to make, to the defence of our nation.’

Cllr Morgan hopes regeneration across the city centre will provide the opportunity for the council to respond.
