THE Portsmouth lifeboat was called to assist a 20ft sail boat when it suffered a sudden dismasting.
The RNLI boat launched on Wednesday at 7.30pm and went to the boat’s assistance, one mile south of Langstone Harbour.
The sail boat’s four experienced crew had been out on the water when the mast suddenly snapped in two, collapsing to the deck. With the sails and rigging left trailing in the water, the sailboat’s skipper called the lifeboat station for assistance.
The Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Norma T went to the scene and ensured the men were safe, before towing them to shore.
