A MAN suffered suspected head and spinal injuries after falling down a set of stairs at his home.

The man, who is 53, collapsed at a house in North End Avenue, Portsmouth, at 6.53pm on Saturday.

A spokesman for the fire service said he landed against the property’s front door, which hindered access to the emergency services.

One crew from Cosham fire station, paramedics, and police officers were sent to the scene.

Firefighters gained access to the house by entering the house next door and climbing over the fence to enter through the rear entrance.

The alarm was raised by the man’s wife.

He was taken out of the house by firefighters and the ambulance crews, and taken to hospital for treatment.

The spokesman added the man was conscious and breathing and could not recall how he fell down the stairs.
