Portsmouth MP reveals women '˜could fight on the frontlines by mid-2016'

THE UK has been in talks with the American and Australian military over plans to allow female British soldiers to fight on the front lines, a Portsmouth MP has revealed.

Penny Mordaunt, Portsmouth North MP, said the Ministry of Defence was working closely with the two countries and other nations who have already lifted the exclusion on women fighting on the front line.

The news comes as Britain assesses its own stance on a potential military shake-up which could see all roles in the armed forces opened up to women this year.
