A survey from price comparison website MoneySupermarket has named the city in the top ten for the country, based on an analysis of car accidents, road rage, road quality and statistics of vehicle crime.

According to the survey, 1093 road accidents took place in 2015, 60 per cent of drivers experienced road rage with 31 per cent of vehicle crime taking place within a one mile radius of the city centre.

However, the city can take solace in the fact that Southampton was named worse for driving after finishing fourth.

Kevin Pratt, consumer affairs expert at MoneySupermarket said: ‘Everyone’s had a bad experience with driving at some point, whether it’s being caught in a jam or some sort of accident.

‘Accidents, vehicle crime and poor road conditions can all affect car insurance premiums, so we want to make sure that everyone has the best information when it comes to controlling their insurance costs.’
