AN MP has thrown her support behind a campaign against the ivory trade.

Portsmouth North’s Penny Mordaunt has pledging her support for the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)’s campaign to protect elephants from poachers.

She said: ‘We must take the lead in the international community to stop elephants dying to fuel the ivory trade.

‘I was dismayed to learn that elephant poaching is on the rise and that vulnerable populations of these animals are being killed at an alarming rate, largely to meet China’s growing demand for ivory.

‘I fully support IFAW’s campaign to protect elephants from the ivory trade, and know that many people in Portsmouth care about this issue.’
