Portsmouth residents receive bogus calls from Windows scammers

Residents in Portsmouth have been inundated with calls from scammers claiming to be from Windows 7.

A woman from Somerstown, who wished to remain nameless, received a call at around 8.45am this morning from a man with an indian accent claiming to be from the computer operating system, which is owned by Microsoft.

The caller claimed that her laptop has several computer viruses, and tried to convince her to turn on her laptop and download an unnamed antivirus software.

The laptop is currently in the possession of the woman’s grandson, who told The News that the laptop was installed with a Windows 10 OS, as well as antivirus software.

After dialling 1471, the woman claims that the call to her landline phone was from the following number: 0019521911834
