A NEW project that provides help to children growing up in difficult family circumstances has been awarded nearly £900,000.

Portsmouth’s Families Moving Forward, which is led by charity Learning Links (Southern), has received £899,989 from the Big Lottery Fund as part of its Improving Futures Programme.

The cash boost will enable voluntary sector organisations to work with public services – including Learning Links, Portsmouth City Council and Portsmouth CAB – to offer support to around 260 families.

Families will benefit from a dedicated family worker, information and training about training and employment, and support with a family budget – where support workers will help devise an action plan.

Learning Links chief executive Zoe Gray said: ‘We are confident Families Moving Forward will equip families with the skills, motivation and confidence to develop and achieve their goals and to deal with any future setbacks themselves.

Fiona Dempsie, of the Big Lottery Fund, said: ‘Learning Links and its partners are focused firmly on improving the wellbeing and life chances of young children by supporting their families.’
