Parents are being encouraged not to miss the deadline to send off secondary school applications.

Portsmouth City Council will start the process of allocating schools for the 2016/17 school term this month.

The council urges parents to get their applications in as soon as possible if they want their children to get into their first-choice school.

Submissions must be sent to the council no later than October 31.

During this period many of the schools will hold open evenings, allowing parents and pupils the opportunity see the school and speak to teachers before they decide on applying.

Parents can apply for their preferred school online at portsmouth.gov.uk/schooladmissions,
